Joyce Summers

Joyce Summers is mom to the slayer. She has not always known about Buffy’s night job, which clearly illustrates the power of denial. Nevertheless she has managed to be overprotective if oblivious. She works at an art gallery selling and acquiring pieces, a vagueness that keeps her working long hours and requires an occasional business trip.

Joyce dies during the later half of the fifth season after some problems which required her to have brain surgery. Dawn attempts to have her mom ressurected by the use of magic.

With her moms death Buffy now has to look after her sister Dawn. As a result Buffy has dropped out of college.
