SEGA's 8-bit platforms were graced with Sonic titles at the early stages of his existence. The less powerful platforms had games that were mostly of the traditional platform and several offered different styles of play.
Aside from the first game which has some parallels to the Mega Drive version, each game was an original adventure. Releases were usually simultaneous on both Master System and Game Gear and for the most part identical with very few changes made to accommodate the smaller screen size.
